Have you ever seen a Thirteen Year Old Drug User? Well if you haven't, you are about to experience it. A HERO Ain't Nothin' But A Sandwich is about a thirteen year old boy named Benjie Johnson who is on the verge to being hooked on heroin for the rest of his life. He's not your average hoodlum; He is very intelligent as far as school, and famous heroes, but growing up in the inner-city, and hanging around the wrong people causes him to think otherwise. He lives with his mother Rose, stepfather Butler, and grandmother Ms.Bell; Also has a close friend name Jimmy-Lee Powell. Heroin causes Benjie To do terrible things such as Steal money from his grandmother. His family & friends want him to Quit, but all Benjie wants is somebody to believe in Him.

Benjie lives In South Central Los Angeles, which was probably one of the worst neighborhoods to grow up in at the time. South Central is filled with a Widespread of crime, drugs and Poverty. You see a lot of things coming up in a Urban ghetto, even Thirteen to Fourteen year old kids literally beating up old mature women for their purses. Growing up in a place like that causes you to lose things; Your Pride and Hope. The Book wouldn't be the same if the setting was opposite. For Example, if the setting was in Beverly Hills, the book would probably talk about rich kids spending the whole weekend shopping, or throwing tea parties and things like that; More like a Prep Story.

Two Characters that changed in the Book are both Benjie, and his Stepfather Butler. Butler wants to be a good stepfather and be conducive to benjie, but he see different. Benjie didn't like Butler because all he did was complain about his habit that he had. They both change in the book because benjie and butler both found a way to have a better relationship when benjie promises to quit heroin; He soon found somebody that actually believed in him.

The Author uses allot of words, and statements to get the point across, or to make the climax interesting. In the book when butler and benjie had their thoughts about each other, butler replied "The Kid got to hangin round those that's in a junk bag and then got in one himself" (Childress 16). when he said the statement, the author was trying to let the readers know that butler was confronting benjie about hanging around the wrong crowd and that they were putting negative thing in his head. The author also wanted the readers to know how dangerous the ghetto was, and what evolves around it When the grandmother said "I'm afraid to go out in the street alone, day or night. Bad boys now hate old people and will beat them and take away our little money" (Childress 29). Also, the authors explains how heroes at he time were unknown. Benjie explains to his mother and stepfather " In This Time, a HERO ain't nothin' but a sandwich."

One major effect in the book was when benjie first started heroin; The cause of that situation was that he thought it wasn't a big deal, and that he could quit any time. Also, another effect in the book was when Jimmy-Lee, and Benjie relationship as friends were in a hole because Jimmy-Lee didn't want any part of what benjie was doing with his life. The last and final Effect of the book was when Benjie and Butler settled their differences because benjie had finally found some one who believed in him.

"Childress does an excellent job of putting the perspectives of all the characters associated with Benjie or to his problem in this novel. Point of view is a defining characteristic of this novel. Within the twenty-three first person narratives, the reader hears the dialect, different knowledge levels, and thinking processes of all the character's, from the local drug pusher to Benjie's high school teachers. This made the plot a bit harder to follow at first, but had it been written any other way it would have lost a definite sense of authenticity." - By Arman Sheffey."Powerfully and courageously honest about the lives of the young, African-American heroin addict Benjie and those around him ... There are no easy answers in this book. I think it's a story people need to hear, whether we want to or not. I couldn't put it down; I will never forget it; I only hope I learned from it. Moving and amazing." - By A Customer"I read this book in highschool, was a very great story. Teaches young teenagers the consequences of heavy drug use and how peer pressure could affect an adolescents mind to do things to make them look cool but due time put them in a major crisis with themselves. Also lets young readers know that there is no shame in getting help and shows families how to put more attention onto their children to prevent things such as these situations from happening in this book." - By Heather

I think people should read this book not because it talks about a young kid growing up in the ghetto, but because it can help you with life situations. It's plenty of people out in the world today that feels just how benjie felt when he needed somebody to be there for them, and to believe that you can achieve more when you have somebody on your side. If You help a human being that is hurt in time, it can teach you allot of things and take you far in life.

Yes, somewhat i support the Legalization of Marijuana because

of It is a plant. The Use of marijuana for Medical purposes only is

reasonable because it's more safer, and their are no human deaths

caused by marijuana. Marijuana may be legal in some states, but

some states won't legalize it because it is Often known as the drug

of hippies and losers, very addictive, associated with narcotics,

and more.  From my research, marijuana is a cure for cancer,

heart problems, pain and nausea. Also, statistics say that if you use marijuana, you would less likely graduate

High school, or pursue higher education which i think is not true at all;I Think it's just how some people abuse

the drug.

Sports Is Like The 9th Wonder Of The World To some people. When I think about sports, i think about family and friends. My family have participated in alot of sports, and also collected things that had something to do with sports.

One of my moments or thing that i have with my culture is that we would have all types of Trading Cards. There were all types of cards for Football, Basketball, Baseball, even Hockey. My Grandfather would have cards stacked tall as some bricks on a houde. It was so many cards that if It Was money, we would probably be Millionaires by now; that's how many cards we collected.

Another moment I could think of is when i was Up north in Kalamazoo, Michigan. My Grandfather work at Wings Stadium, Home of the Kalamazoo Wings Hockey team. They Also They a Arena Football team at the time called Kalamazoo Xplosion. When you were at the games, It was Live as a Concert. I felt like I had the american Dream; I Got in the games for free, free food, autographs, cheerleaders, and more. Being there, and the experience that i had over the years is what really made play football.

Last Moment I Could Think Of Is when I first started playing football. I started Football In Middle School, and it didn't really go well. It was rough because there were alot of players that had more experience than me because most of them played football since they were 6 years old. I Really didn't Play as much in middle school, so that really motivated me to work hard so when I got to high school, I would be ready. Now I Play For Chamblee Charter High School Bulldogs, and proud to play for my school.

Football Has been im my life since I was born. When i was little, my room was filled with nothing but football stuff. When  first heard of the word "football," I never knew what It meant. As I got a little older, I started to like it. One Thing I Remember was when my Daycare teacher gave me a Georgia Bulldogs Football, and he autographed my name; Kinda nice. My Dad would always lecture me about me playing football, and that i should do something constructive with my time. I think he was right. Now I play for Chamblee Charter High School, and we are 4-0. What is it that you like to do?

The Teachers' strike On Chicago has affected alot people for the past few days. children without education, mothers with no jobs, and also with no solutions. I support and oppose the situation for  several reasons, what's your reason?

Kids should get their education because if they don't, they will be nothing in life. I know it's kinda cruel but it's true. There Is alot of bad things that could get in the way such as poverty, drugs, killing, and even more.

Chicago has been a war zone for over 30 years, and it has affected alot of people; childern as well. While the teachers are on strike, they are getting nothing out of it. It is A fact that the money that they are demanding and complaining about, they are making absolutely no money while on strike. Also, they complain about building conditions, and other things that doesn't matter at all.

In my honest opinion, I just think that the situation could have been dealt with more differently. I would have probably went to the school board or the mayor, but cheating children out of their education for small problems, not fair to the kids or the parents....what do you think?

What is your favorite sport? What skills are needed to become an elite athlete in that sport?

My favorite sport is football. there are actually plenty of skills needed to become an athlete in football. First skill is to eat the right things such as fruits, peanuts, pasta and more. Second skill is the weight room. If you are strong in the weight room, you will get alot of results. The Most important thing in the world is the classroom. The Classroom is the most important skill you can ever have, and it is at the top of all these skills i just listed. So my question to you is; Can you handle the skills to become that athlete?

Imagine You In A Place Where You Feel Like You Are About To Be Attacked By Flying Bullets, And Nowhere is safe. Well In Case You Didn't Know, Afghan Troops Are Throwing Shots At U.S. Troops.

Gunmen wearing police and army uniforms have killed 40 U.S. and NATO troops so far. Which in my opinion, thinking that their is no reason of why the killing is spreading. Nonetheless, the gunman are making threats to the troops, and the police to kill Americans. The question in my head was should U.S. Troops have more security? My answer is yes they should. Since then, I have read that U.S. troops should be armed at all times.
In fact, the article in the end basically explains that the U.S. And Afghan Relationship are good. "The closer the relationship, the more secure, ultimately, our troops will be," says General Allen. When I read that towards, my whole face expression just totally changed, But overall, I Think It's Good for both afghanistan and our Country. What Do You think?
